Team Profile

The Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation became a Concacaf member in 1986 and shortly after began to turn heads around the region.

Vincy Heat, the men’s national team, notched a second-place finish in the 1995 Caribbean Cup to earn a spot at the 1996 Concacaf Gold Cup. That tournament remains SVG’s only appearance at the continental championship, but it still looms large in history, with many former players from those squads still involved in the game in the country.

SVG hoped to return to the Gold Cup in 2021, with a second-place finish in its League B group in the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League earning the team a spot in the Gold Cup Prelims. A loss to Haiti, however, meant the goal will have to be reached in the future.

Still, the CNL campaign leaves plenty on which to build. SVG found several results, winning three matches, including a road tilt with Suriname and drawing the group’s strongest teams in Suriname and Nicaragua.

In fact, SVG made it all the way to the final matchday without a defeat, but a 1-0 loss to Dominica in Roseau, combined with Suriname’s win over Nicaragua that same night meant it was Suriname winning promotion to League A and taking the automatic Gold Cup spot that came with it.

Meanwhile, the women’s senior national team is on the hunt for Concacaf W Championship glory after never qualifying under the previous women’s football structure.
