Team Profile

The Football Federation of Belize joined Concacaf in 1986, shortly after Central America’s only majority English-speaking country declared full independence in 1981. Since then, it has been working to lift the country’s name up high.

The men’s national team will again compete in League B of the Concacaf Nations League, getting victories in the 2019-20 CNL over Saint Kitts and Nevis and French Guiana to finish third in the four-team group and keep the place it earned in qualification with results over the Bahamas and Puerto Rico.

There have been high points in Belize’s footballing history. The nation made the Concacaf Gold Cup in 2013, the only time the Golden Jaguars were able to land in the continental championship.

Forward Deon McCaulay scored 11 goals in World Cup qualification in the 2014 cycle to lead not only Concacaf but also tie him with Luis Suarez and Robin van Persie as the top scorer for qualification on a global level.

With coaching education programs underway to find the best leaders for both men’s and women’s programs and more free play being encouraged, Belize likely will be producing many more players that can help its teams find Gold Cup and Nations League success.
