The men’s national team most recently achieved success in the inaugural edition of the Concacaf Nations League, earning promotion from League C to League B by going undefeated with three wins and a draw in its group. It achieved that despite having to train, at times, by the lights of players’ cars in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian.
The men’s national team also earned a hard-fought draw against Trinidad and Tobago in World Cup qualification in 2021.
There have been high points on the field, but also on the sand, with Bahamas hosting the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup and earning a win in the group stage.
The country’s all-time leading scorer, Lesly St. Fleur, is an example of The Bahamas football culture, having scored both in World Cup qualification and at the Beach Soccer World Cup.
As the women’s national team ramps up, another element will be added to the island’s culture as the FA and the footballing community work to keep The Bahamas as an example in the Caribbean.
