Team Profile

With both their men’s and women’s teams able to boast that they are veterans of the FIFA World Cup, few nations in Concacaf can match Jamaica’s accolades on the international stage.

The Reggae Boyz made the FIFA World Cup in 1998, finishing third in qualification behind Mexico and the United States to book their ticket to France. The women’s team followed in 2019, with top scorer Khadija “Bunny” Shaw keying a third-place finish at the Concacaf W Championship.

Now, Jamaica will work to return to those heights and have even more success at the highest level, while also searching for regional accolades.

The men’s qualification performances landed them in League B in the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League, but Jamaica lived up to its pedigree by going undefeated in its group and earning promotion to League A, where they will call home in 2022-23.

The women’s squad also is hoping to once again get past its regional rivals and move into the World Cup for a second consecutive time, with a target on their back after making it to France 2019. That would make it all the more impressive if they’re able to take the Road to Australia/New Zealand, provided by Concacaf’s new tournament structure.

Joining Concacaf in 1963, shortly after the county’s independence, it is clear the Jamaica Football Federation can remind fans of its storied history by achieving things in its bright present.
