Bio

The Barbados Football Association has been a Concacaf member since 1967, just after declaring independence. It has brought plenty to the table since then and achieved a lot on the football field.

Most recently, the men’s national team enjoyed success in the Concacaf Nations League, winning Group A of League C to earn promotion and an opportunity to qualify for the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup.

While the Bajan Tridents fell short of entering the competition proper, falling to Bermuda in the first round of qualification, they will keep pushing towards the goal of making the continental championship for the first time.

They have historic success upon which to draw. In the 2002 World Cup qualification cycle, Barbados won the Caribbean Zone with teams led by Jerry Alexander and Gregory Goodridge and landed in the semifinal stage, where they started with a win over Costa Rica, but ultimately fell short of advancing from the group, which was topped by the United States and the Ticos.

After playing their first international more than a decade ago, the Barbados women’s national team also is looking to make a similar run and perhaps go even deeper, beginning with the Concacaf W Championship.
