Team Profile

Since its first matches in Concacaf in 1971, the Guyana Football Federation has been working to put football on the right trajectory.

After narrowly missing out on League A in a strong qualification campaign, Guyana landed in League B of the Concacaf Nations League for the 2019-20 edition and will be there again in 2022-23 after a second-place finish in Group C.

A loss and a draw to Jamaica and a defeat at the hands of Antigua and Barbuda meant Guyana had to settle for runners-up in the group, but were able to move to 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup qualification, falling in the first round after also going through a difficult World Cup qualification campaign.

It would’ve been a second consecutive appearance at the continental championship for the Golden Jaguars, whose high-water mark came in 2019 with an appearance in the Gold Cup thanks to its seventh-place finish in CNL qualification.

The women’s national team played friendly matches in 2021 in anticipation of the Concacaf W Championship, and a spot in the final tournament would mark a return after an appearance at the 2010 tournament in Mexico. Mariam El-Masri had a pair of goals at that tournament for the Lady Jags and became a regular for the national team in CFU and Concacaf tournaments.
