Team Profile
The men’s national team for Saint Martin, a Concacaf member since 2013, definitely faced an uphill battle in the first-ever edition of the Concacaf Nations League.
The team struggled in qualification, losing all four of its matches with a minus-17 goal difference and finished at the very bottom of the table. Already, it’s starting to reverse those results.
After the qualification disappointment, Saint Martin may have been tempted to hang its head after a pair of losses to open play in Group A of League C, with Barbados and the U.S. Virgin Islands both getting results. Yet, in October of 2019, a hat trick from Yannick Bellechasse helped the Saint Swallows begin to turn the tide.
The three goals from Bellechasse led Saint Martin to a 3-0 victory over the Cayman Islands, and even though the Cayman Islands got the better of Saint Martin in their next meeting just days later, things already were changing.
Barbados would have one of only two losses pinned on it by Saint Martin the next time around, with a road win over the U.S. Virgin Islands allowing Saint Martin to finish third in the group.
In addition to the men’s senior team, the Football Committee of Saint-Martin also operates the long running Saint-Martin Championships league.
