LD Alajuelense, CSD Xelajú MC set for rematch in the Central American Cup

La Liga faces Xelajú in a rematch of the 2025 Central American Cup Final.

ALAJUELA, Costa Rica – The 2026 Concacaf Central American Cup continues with defending champions LD Alajuelense taking on CSD Xelajú MC in Group A on Wednesday at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica.

The sides meet for a third time in Central American Cup history after clashing in the 2025 Final. The two previous meetings ended in 1-1 draws, before Alajuelense won its third title with a 4-3 penalty shootout victory.

LD Alajuelense has won the first three editions of the Central American Cup and seeks to extend its supremacy in the competition. The Costa Rican powerhouse qualified by winning the Torneo Apertura 2025.

La Liga enters the fourth edition as the only team to have played all 30 possible matches in the competition. The club leads the tournament's all-time standings with 18 victories and owns an 18-10-2 record in Central American Cup play.

Xelajú opens its third appearance in the tournament after finishing as runners-up in 2025. Los Chivos qualified by reaching the Final of Guatemala's Torneo Clausura 2026.

Xela is the only Guatemalan club to have reached a Central American Cup Final. The club has compiled a 5-4-5 record across 14 matches in the competition. Midfielder Antonio López, a key figure in the club's run to the 2025 Final, enters the tournament as the competition's all-time assists leader with eight.
