Previewing the five teams in Group D ahead of the 2026 Concacaf Central American Cup
MIAMI – As the 2026 Concacaf Central American Cup approaches, it's time to take a closer look at the 20 clubs that secured their place in the region's annual club competition.
Group D features CSD Municipal, FC Motagua, CS Cartaginés, CD FAS, and Verdes FC.
CSD Municipal
CSD Municipal returns for its third consecutive appearance in the Central American Cup after qualifying as the runner-up of Guatemala's Torneo Apertura 2025.
Los Rojos will be aiming to advance beyond the Group Stage for the first time after exiting in that round during each of their previous two tournament appearances.
FC Motagua
FC Motagua returns for its fourth consecutive appearance in the Central American Cup after qualifying by finishing atop the overall standings across Honduras' Torneo Apertura 2025 and Torneo Clausura 2026.
El Ciclón Azul enters the tournament looking to advance beyond the Quarterfinals after reaching that stage in each of its previous three appearances. Motagua leads all Honduran clubs with 24 matches played and 36 goals scored in Central American Cup history, while posting a 9-8-7 all-time record.
CS Cartaginés
CS Cartaginés will make its third appearance in the Central American Cup after qualifying by finishing atop the overall standings during Costa Rica's Primera División 2025-26 season.
Los Brumosos reached the Quarterfinals in both of their previous tournament appearances in 2023 and 2025. Cartaginés enters this year's edition with a 6-4-6 all-time record across 16 matches, the third-most matches played by a Costa Rican club in Central American Cup history.
CD FAS
CD FAS returns for its second Central American Cup appearance after qualifying by finishing atop the overall standings across El Salvador's Torneo Apertura 2025 and Torneo Clausura 2026.
Los Tigres were eliminated in the Group Stage during the inaugural 2023 edition and will be looking to earn the club's first points in the competition after losing all four of their previous matches.
Verdes FC
Verdes FC returns for its third Central American Cup appearance, including its second consecutive, after qualifying as the 2025-26 Premier League of Belize Opening Season champion.
The Belizean club will aim to advance beyond the Group Stage for the first time while seeking its first points in the competition.
