Saprissa, Cartaginés share points in Quarterfinals First Leg

All to play for next week in the Second Leg for both Costa Rica clubs.

COSTA RICA – The 2026 Concacaf Central American Cup continued with Deportivo Saprissa and CS Cartaginés playing to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday in the First Leg of their Quarterfinals series at Estadio Ricardo Saprissa in San Juan de Tíbás, San José, Costa Rica.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 36’ when Orlando Sinclair knocked in a cross from Gerson Torres.

CS Cartaginés responded and leveled it in the 48’ as José González blasted one from close range.

The visitors jumped ahead in the 59’ when Geancarlo Castro’s left-footed shot from the edge of the box found the back of the net, marking his fourth goal of the tournament for CS Cartaginés.

Trailing in the closing moments, Saprissa notched a late equalizer in the 89’ off a well-placed rocket from captain David Guzmán.

The second-leg of the Quarterfinals series will be played on September 16 at Estadio José Rafael “Fello” Meza in Cartago, Costa Rica.

• This was the first time CS Cartaginés scored two or more goals in a Concacaf Central American Cup Quarterfinal match. It also marked the first time the Costa Rican side avoided defeat at this stage of the competition.
• Orlando Sinclair scored his third goal of the 2026 Concacaf Central American Cup against CS Cartaginés, making Deportivo Saprissa the only club in this year's edition with two players to have reached that mark, alongside Mariano Torres.
• Orlando Sinclair has now scored nine Concacaf Central American Cup goals for Deportivo Saprissa, surpassing Javon East (8) to become the club's all-time leading scorer in the competition. Sinclair has also scored two of Saprissa's four all-time Quarterfinal goals, with his other coming in 2023.
• Deportivo Saprissa registered 22 shots against CS Cartaginés, their highest total in a single match across the last two editions of the Concacaf Central American Cup. Despite that attacking output, Saprissa were held to a draw, conceding twice from just five Cartaginés shots.
• Geancarlo Castro scored his fourth goal of the tournament for CS Cartaginés, moving level with Ronaldo Cisneros as the leading scorer in the 2026 Concacaf Central American Cup. Only Marco Ureña (6) and Johan Venegas (5), both in 2025, have scored more goals for Cartaginés in a single edition of the competition.
