Diriangén, Alajuelense meet after opening wins

Both clubs opened the tournament with victories and now meet in a matchup between the top two teams in Group A.

MIAMI – Group A action in the 2026 Concacaf Central American Cup continues Wednesday as Diriangén FC hosts LD Alajuelense at Estadio Nacional in Managua, Nicaragua.

The clubs will meet for the first time in Central American Cup history despite both competing in the tournament since its inaugural edition.

The reigning champions will look to keep their run going after opening Group A with a victory over CSD Xelajú in a rematch of the 2025 Final. Washington Ortega and Ronaldo Cisneros played key roles, with Cisneros scoring the winning goal as Alajuelense extended its unbeaten away run in the competition.

Diriangén FC delivered a strong attacking performance in its first group A match, defeating Plaza Amador 4-2 behind goals from Luis Coronel, Harry Rojas, Bruno Barja and Anyelo Velásquez. The result moved the Nicaraguan club to the top of the Group A standings and marked its second consecutive home victory in the competition, a first for the club.
