Cordero, Mena trade goals in draw between Municipal and Cartaginés

CSD Municipal and CS Cartaginés opened their campaigns with a 1-1 draw.

GUATEMALA CITY – The 2026 Concacaf Central American Cup continued with CSD Municipal and CS Cartaginés playing to a 1-1 draw in Group D on Thursday at Estadio Manuel Felipe Carrera in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

José González came close to finding the opener for the visitors in the 19’, following a defensive mistake, but Municipal defender Yunior Pérez managed to clear his attempt off the line.

Randal Cordero handed Cartaginés the lead in the 23’, finding the back of the net with a header at the far post from a corner kick delivery.

Municipal equalized in the 44’, with José Mena capitalizing on a loose ball inside the box after a corner kick to strike from close range.

González generated a clear opportunity for Cartaginés in the 90’+3’ as Los Brumosos searched for a winner, but his left-footed effort from inside the box was denied by a key save from Municipal goalkeeper Braulio Linares.

Group D action resumes on Thursday, with Municipal visiting Verdes FC. Cartaginés will resume its campaign in Matchday Three when it visits FC Motagua on August 12.
