UMECIT FC set for Central American Cup debut against visiting Deportivo Saprissa

Tournament debutants welcome Costa Rican powerhouse Deportivo Saprissa in the Central American Cup.

PENONOMÉ, Panama – The 2026 Concacaf Central American Cup continues with UMECIT FC hosting Deportivo Saprissa in Group C on Wednesday at Estadio Universidad Latina in Penonomé, Panama.

UMECIT FC will be making its tournament debut after qualifying as the second-best team in the overall standings during the 2025-26 Liga Panameña de Fútbol season.

Deportivo Saprissa will be making its fourth consecutive appearance in the tournament after qualifying as the best team in the overall standings during Costa Rica’s Primera División 2025-26 season. The Costa Rican side reached the Quarterfinals in both 2023 and 2024.

Panamanian teams are unbeaten in three of the four times they have hosted Costa Rican opposition in this tournament (2-1-1). Deportivo Saprissa holds a 3-4-3 all-time road record in this tournament, including a 1-nil loss to Independiente La Chorrera in 2025.
