CS Cartaginés keeps advancement hopes alive with win over Verdes FC

CS Cartaginés scores four against Verdes FC to remain in contention for a place in the Quarterfinals.

CARTAGO, Costa Rica – The 2026 Concacaf Central American Cup continued on Tuesday with CS Cartaginés earning a 4-0 win over Verdes FC in Group D at Estadio José Rafael Fello Meza in Cartago, Costa Rica.

The hosts opened the scoring just eight minutes in when Diego Mesén netted a header from close range.

Alonso Hernández doubled the lead in the 42’ when he pounced on a loose ball in the area and fired it home.

Geancarlo Castro put a stamp on the victory with a quick brace, scoring in the 90’ and the 90+4’ to secure the three points.

With the result, the Costa Rican club keeps its hopes of advancing to the Quarterfinals alive. Verdes, meanwhile, closed its 2026 Central American Cup campaign with the loss.

CS Cartaginés will play its next match of the tournament on Tuesday, August 25 against CD FAS.
