Club Xelajú earns first win with shutout of Diriangén FC

Club Xelajú earns its first three points of the campaign with a 2-0 victory over Diriangén FC in Group A.

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala – The 2026 Concacaf Central American Cup continued on Tuesday with Club Xelajú earning a 2-0 win over Diriangén FC in Group A at Estadio Cementos Progreso in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Club Xelajú opened the scoring in the 16’ when Diego Casas converted from the penalty spot.

The hosts doubled their advantage in the 76’ as Javier González delivered a low cross and captain Jorge Aparicio fired his shot into the back of the net to secure the club’s first three points.

Diriangén FC’s Central American Cup campaign came to a close with the loss, while Club Xelajú will play its final Group Stage match on Wednesday, August 26 against L.A. Firpo.

• Club Xelajú have won two of their three matches against Nicaraguan teams in the Concacaf Central American Cup; they have only achieved more wins in the competition against teams from El Salvador (three of three).
• Club Xelajú secured their first win in the Concacaf Central American Cup after seven consecutive matches without a win (D4 L3), since beating Sporting SM in the first leg of the quarter-finals in 2025.
• Club Xelajú's Diego Casas became the first Uruguayan player to score a penalty goal in the last two editions of the Concacaf Central American Cup after netting a penalty today against Diriangén FC.
• Jorge Aparicio sealed Club Xelajú's win by scoring his second goal for the Guatemalan side in the Concacaf Central American Cup, his first in the competition this year. The Xelajú captain has now scored as many goals in the tournament as he did for Comunicaciones (2).
• Diego Casas took five attempts against Diriangén FC, the most of any player in the match. The Uruguayan forward registered the second-highest number of attempts in a single game for Club Xelajú across the last two editions of the Concacaf Central American Cup.
