Toluca reaches the Round of 16

Toluca books a spot in the Round of 16 of the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup.

HOUSTON – The Leagues Cup 2026 concluded on Sunday with Deportivo Toluca defeating CF Monterrey 2-0 in the Final at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Toluca took an early lead in the 4’, with Alexis Vega capitalizing on a rebound and striking from inside the penalty area after an initial attempt from Federico Viñas that was tipped by the opposition’s goalkeeper before bouncing off the right post.

Goalkeeper Hugo González delivered a key save in the 32’ to preserve Toluca’s advantage, showing quick reflexes to deny a header from Monterrey’s Ricardo Chávez from the center of the box.

A hard-fought second half then remained scoreless until the final stretch, when The Red Devils doubled their advantage in the 70’ as Helinho found the back of the net on a quick play in transition.

With the result, Toluca secured its first Leagues Cup title and will now kick off its title defense in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup directly in the Round of 16 of the tournament.
