Mexico hosts England for World Cup Round of 16 clash
A victory on Sunday would send Mexico to the FIFA World Cup Quarterfinals for the first time since 1986.
MEXICO CITY – The FIFA World Cup 2026 continues as Mexico faces England in the Round of 16 on Sunday, 8:00 PM ET (6:00 PM local), at Mexico City Stadium in Mexico City, Mexico.
Mexico enters the match following a commanding 2-nil victory over Ecuador in the Round of 32, becoming the first Concacaf nation to defeat a CONMEBOL opponent in a FIFA World Cup Knockout Round match.
El Tricolor boasts one of the tournament's in-form attackers in Julián Quiñones, who has found the net in three of Mexico's four matches. Quiñones is tied with Cuauhtémoc Blanco and Rafael Márquez for third on Mexico's all-time FIFA World Cup scoring list and needs one goal to equal the record shared by Luis Hernández and Javier Hernández.
The reigning Concacaf Gold Cup and Concacaf Nations League champions have also been outstanding defensively, with Raúl Rangel recording four consecutive clean sheets. Mexico has now gone 15 consecutive FIFA World Cup matches without conceding a first-half goal, a streak dating back to the start of Brazil 2014.
England booked its place in the Round of 16 with a 2-1 win over Congo DR, powered by a brace from Harry Kane, who has now scored five goals in the tournament.
A victory on Sunday would send Mexico to the FIFA World Cup Quarterfinals for the first time since 1986, when the nation last hosted the tournament.
