How They Qualified
Mexico, alongside Canada and the United States, qualified to the 2026 FIFA World Cup as one of the tournament’s three hosts. Mexico previously hosted the 1970 and 1986 editions.

Javier Aguirre returns for his third FIFA World Cup as Mexico head coach. “El Vasco” previously led Mexico at the 2002 and 2010 editions, both ending in Round of 16 exits, and guided the team to Concacaf Nations League and Gold Cup titles in 2025.
The Mexico City native also represented his nation on the field during the 1986 edition, the last time Mexico hosted a World Cup.
