Knockout Stage Debut

Canada faces South Africa in FIFA World Cup Round of 32.

LOS ANGELES – The FIFA World Cup 2026 continues with Canada facing South Africa in the Round of 32 on Sunday, 3:00 PM ET (12:00 PM local), at Los Angeles Stadium in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Canada will make a historic debut in the Knockout Round at a FIFA World Cup after a memorable Group Stage campaign. The Reds finished second place in Group B with a 1-1-1 record, including a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in its tournament opener to secure its first point at a World Cup, followed by a 6-nil rout of Qatar to claim a historic first win.

Amongst the top performers for Jesse Marsch’s side are forwards Jonathan David and Cyle Larin. David registered a hat-trick against Qatar, becoming just the second Concacaf player and the first Canadian to score three goals in a World Cup match, while Larin has scored twice so far.

Canada star Alphonso Davies could boost the team and make his debut at the FIFA World Cup 2026, as he is expected to be fully fit after being an unused substitute throughout the Group Stage.

South Africa is also set for its debut in the Knockout Round of a FIFA World Cup after placing second in Group A with a 1-1-1 record. Bafana Bafana opened with a 2-nil loss to Mexico, followed by a 1-1 draw against Czechia, and a 1-nil win over South Korea.

The Knockout Round match will see the sides meet for a second time in their history after facing off in an international friendly in 2007. South Africa secured a 2-nil win in that match, played in Durban, South Africa.
