Canada finishes second in Group B, makes history by advancing to the Knockout Round for the first time

VANCOUVER, Canada – The FIFA World Cup 2026 continued as Canada fell 2-1 against Switzerland in Group B on Wednesday at BC Place Vancouver in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Canada goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau had a key intervention in the 11’ to deny Switzerland’s Breel Embolo on a one-on-one opportunity.

Ruben Vargas opened the scoring in the 46’ to place Switzerland in the lead, capitalizing on a delivery from Johan Manzambi.

Manzambi added a second for Switzerland in the 57’ with a powerful hit from the right end of the box.

Promise David shortened the deficit for Canada in the 76’ with a strike inside the box just one minute after entering the match. Nathan Saliba provided the assist from the right after bringing down a long ball delivered by defender Luc de Fougerolles.
