Five-goal display secures victory for Plaza Amador over Xelajú
Plaza Amador scores five goals to earn key second victory in Group A.
PANAMA CITY, Panama - The 2026 Concacaf Central American Cup continued on Tuesday with Plaza Amador earning a 5-2 victory over CSD Xelajú MC in Group A at Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City, Panama.
The visitors took an early lead in the 29’, with Steven Cárdenas striking from the left side of the box.
Plaza Amador equalized in the 43’ through a header at the far post by Everardo Rose.
Rose completed the comeback and sealed his brace before the half in the 45+3’ with a finish from the left side of the box; Ricardo Phillips registered the assist on the play.
Xelajú levelled the match in the 52’ through a strike from Diego Casas.
Yoameth Murillo restored the lead for the home side in the 64’, finding the back of the net from the center of the box to capitalize on a precise delivery from Eric Davies from the left flank.
Plaza Amador rounded out the result with a long-range strike by Daivis Murillo in the 68’, and an own goal from Xelajú in the 76’.
Xelajú will continue its Central American Cup campaign when it hosts Diriangén FC on Tuesday, August 18. Plaza Amador will visit LD Alajuelense in its final Group Stage match on August 26.

- This is the third time Plaza Amador have managed to win a Concacaf Central American Cup match after conceding the first goal, including the last two editions. It is also the first time they have done so at home, having previously beaten Antigua GFC 5-3 and LD Alajuelense 2-1 awayfrom home in 2025.

Both players also have five assists in this period, the joint-most alongside Xelajú's Jesús López.
