Salcedo FC defeats Portmore United in Caribbean Cup debut

Salcedo FC opened its Caribbean Cup campaign with a victory in the club’s tournament debut.

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago - The 2026 Concacaf Caribbean Cup kicked off with Salcedo FC earning a 2-1 win over Portmore United in Group B on Tuesday at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

This match marked the Caribbean Cup debut for both clubs after they qualified as champions of their respective national leagues in the Dominican Republic and Jamaica.

Salcedo FC opened the scoring when Jamesley Daniel fired a low shot from the middle of the box in the 32’. Daniel was the top scorer in the 2025/26 Dominican League season with 24 goals in 33 matches.

The Dominican side doubled its lead right before halftime when Ányelo Gómez met a cross from Daniel in the 44’ and scored.

Portmore United cut into the deficit in the 50’ when Marques Reid’s shot was saved, but Javier Brown reacted to score on the rebound.

Salcedo FC will continue its Caribbean Cup campaign against Cavalier FC on August 20. Portmore United will face Cavalier FC in its next match this tournament on September 3.
