MIAMI – Concacaf recently launched the 2025 Refereeing Caribbean Seminar Ser ies , a landmark development initiative focused on strengthening refereeing standards, education, and collaboration across the region.

The seminar s served as a dedicated development program for the Caribbean, with the primary objectives of identifying emerging refereeing talent and enhancing the quality and expertise of both referees and instructors representing participating Member Associations.

As part of the initiative, Member Associations were invited to nominate referees between the ages of 20 and 30, along with a local technical instructor, to take part in the seminar s . These participants were identified as having strong potential for future growth and may be considered for selection in upcoming Concacaf development programs, including referee and instructor academies.

Through a combination of technical sessions, practical exercises, and educational discussions, participants had the opportunity to refine their skills and gain valuable insights into the evolving standards of the modern game.

The seminars provided a comprehensive development platform where referees had their fitness, agility, and balance evaluated to establish a baseline for future growth and performance monitoring.

Local technical instructors actively supported the practical field training sessions and participated in technical classroom evaluations to assess and enhance their instructional knowledge and expertise.

A total of four seminars took place across the Caribbean region, hosted in Antigua and Barbuda , the Dominican Republic , Martinique , and Trinidad and Tobago . Member Associations were strategically assigned to each location based on native language and geographical proximity, ensuring an effective learning environment that supports clear communication and regional collaboration.

“Identifying the next generation of talented referees and getting them into our development programs early is crucial for ensuring long-term excellence across our region,” said Nicola Rizzoli, Concacaf Director of Refereeing . “At the same time, supporting the education of referee technical instructors within each Member Association allows us to deliver the most up-to-date teachings and methodologies directly to the local level. This dual approach – developing young talent and empowering educators – is essential to building a sustainable and progressive refereeing structure throughout Concacaf.”

While the seminar series focused on the Caribbean, Concacaf extended invitations to all of it s Member Associations. This diverse participation fostered meaningful collaboration, enabling attendees to share experiences, exchange best practices, and strengthen professional connections across the Confederation.
