Cairo, Thomas, Adipi star in Caribbean Cup Best XI

MIAMI, Florida – The 2023 Concacaf Caribbean Cup came to an exciting conclusion on Wednesday night.

There were many excellent individual performances over the course of the last three-and-a-half months, yet these 11 players stood out the most at their respective positions.

Goalkeeper  

Jonathan Fonkel, Robinhood – It was a tournament to remember for Fonkel, who not only won the Best Goalkeeper award but also was named the tournament’s Best Young Player for his 33 saves and 27 clearances in Robinhood’s eight matches, plus clean sheets in the team’s final three matches.

Defenders  

Jeovanni Laing, Cavalier – Laing’s defensive presence helped Cavalier reach the final by way of making five steals and seven clearances. He also scored a goal.

Allierio Belfor, Robinhood – In defense Belfor’s work-rate was incredible with 12 steals and 23 clearances. He also completed more than 85 percent of his passes.

Jose Francisco, Moca – Francisco really came through for his team when they needed it the most, scoring a goal and adding an assist in the Third-Place series against Harbour View.

Midfielders 

Renske Adipi, Robinhood – Named the tournament’s Best Player, Adipi did it all with a goal, an assist, eight steals, three clearances and more than 83 percent of passes completed.

Dimitrio Andro, Robinhood – Andro’s sensational strike gave Robinhood a 1-0 win in the first leg of the Final, but he also had six steals in six matches.

Jalmaro Calvin, Cavalier – Calvin played the role of goalscorer and playmaker with three goals, plus three assists. No player had more assists in the Caribbean Cup than Calvin. 

Franklin Singodikromo, Robinhood – Singodikromo saved his very best for last. After scoring in second half stoppage time to save his team from elimination in the semifinals, Singodikromo had a goal and an assist in the 2-0 second leg win in the Final.

Forwards

Gustavo Ascona, Moca – Ascona got better with every game, scoring in each of his team’s two final group stage matches, followed by goals in the semifinals and Third-Place series.

Shaniel Thomas, Cavalier – Thomas finished the tournament as the top scorer with eight goals. He tallied seven goals during the group stage, including back-to-back hat-tricks.

Shaquille Cairo, Robinhood – Cairo ended as the top scorer for champions Robinhood with five goals, all coming in the group stage during which he scored in all four matches.
