SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – Anette Vazquez’s first half goal lifted Mexico to a 1-0 triumph over Canada in the semifinals of the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship in the Dominican Republic and secured a spot for El Tricolor in the 2022 FIFA Women’s Under-20 World Cup in Costa Rica.
It is the ninth time that Mexico have qualified for the Women’s Under-20 World Cup.
From the opening whistle until the final seconds, it was a tight, intense affair between the two North American sides at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo.
The deciding goal came in the 27’ beginning with some skill from Alexia Villanueva, who took a touch off her chest and then played a ball into the middle that Vazquez volleyed into net with her left foot to make it 1-0 to Mexico.
