Davies, Romo and Bonilla star in League A Best XI

MIAMI, Florida – There were many great performances from players in League A over the course of the June window in the 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League, yet these 11 players stood out the most at their respective position.

GK Mario Gonzalez, El Salvador – Gonzalez was in net for two games for the Cuscatlecos and was superb in both, helping El Salvador claim a 3-1 win over Grenada and then making a number of spectacular saves in the 1-1 draw with the United States. Overall, he finished with seven saves and seven clearances.

DF Alphonso Davies, Canada – Davies started both Canada games during the window and was excellent in his country’s 4-0 win against Curacao, earning a penalty, scoring two goals and assisting on another. He also had a steal and completed nearly 80 percent of his passes.

DF Fidel Escobar, Panama – Escobar was a big reason why Panama picked up seven points out of nine during the window with three clean sheets. He had a goal and eight clearances.

DF Carlos Melendez, Honduras – Honduras earned two wins from their three matches and it could not have happened without the work rate of Melendez, who had 11 clearances and six steals in 244 minutes of action.

DF Michael Murillo, Panama – Murillo was his usual solid self in the back for Panama, with three clearances and two steals in defense, while contributing to the attack by completing almost 92 percent of his passes.

MF Edgar Barcenas, Panama – No midfielder had more goals in League A during the window than Barcenas with two. On top of that, he had three steals and completed more 95 percent of his passes.

MF Luis Romo, Mexico – Romo finished as the highest rated midfielder after starting in Mexico’s two matches, a 3-0 win versus Suriname and a 1-1 draw at Jamaica. Romo scored the crucial equalizer against the Reggae Boyz and had three steals, plus a clearance.

MF Luca de la Torre, United States – De La Torre was a wizard in the U.S. midfield in the 5-0 win against Grenada, with an assist while completing over 90 percent of his passes. He then came off the bench late to provide the assist on the tying goal in the 1-1 draw at El Salvador.

CAM Ravel Morrison, Jamaica – Morrison finished the window with a goal and assist to help Jamaica to the top of Group A and also secure a berth in the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup.

FW Jesus Ferreira, United States – Ferreira tied a U.S. record for goals in a single game with his four scores against Grenada. He finished the window with an astounding 13 shots in just two games.

FW Nelson Bonilla, El Salvador – Bonilla’s brace made the difference for El Salvador in their 3-1 victory over Grenada, as he finished the window with two goals on six shots, plus one steal.
