Barbados flex scoring muscles to down Saint Martin

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados -- Barbados took care of business in their opening match of Group A of League C of the Concacaf Nations League with a convincing 4-0 win over Saint Martin on Thursday night at Wildey Turf in Bridgetown.

The home side wasted no time going out in front of the visitors, as Omani Leacock opened the scoring in just the fourth minute of play. The goal was the 21-year-old’s first ever in international competition.

Leacock wasn’t the only Bajan of the evening to get his first goal with the national team; Nicholas Blackman would double the lead in the 15th minute with a neat finish following a Barbados counterattack -- set up by Leacock -- for his own first goal.

Blackman would add another in the 49th minute again via a Leacock assist, and 17-year-old Thierry Gale joined the party when he scored a magnificent free kick in the 64th minute to open his international account.

Saint Martin had a few opportunities throughout the match but none ended with a goal for the away side.

The victory sees Barbados move into first place in Group A on goal differential and sets up a juicy showdown with co-leaders Cayman Islands in George Town on Sunday.
