Robinhood, Golden Lion reach Final, earn Caribbean Cup spot

MIAMI, Florida – It was a big day on Friday for Suriname club Robinhood and Golden Lion of Martinique, as they pocketed victories in the semifinals of the 2023 Concacaf Caribbean Club Shield in Saint Kitts and Nevis.

Not only does each club advance to Sunday’s Final, but they both have qualified for the 2023 Concacaf Caribbean Cup, which will start later this month.

Robinhood started off the day by defeating Metropolitan of Puerto Rico, 5-0. The star of the day for Robinhood was Shaquille Cairo, who notched a hat trick with goals in the 41’, 72’ and 75’. Cairo now has eight goals thus far in the tournament, tops among all players.

Adding their names to the scoresheet were Dimitrio Andro in the 45’ and Carlos Da Silva in the 69’.

In the nightcap, Martinique’s Golden Lion topped Club Sando of Trinidad and Tobago, 2-1. 

Marvin Bellance opened the scoring for Golden Lion in the 12’ before legendary Martinique FW Kevin Parsemain, who finished as the top scorer in the 2022 edition of the Shield, doubled the lead to 2-0 in the 24’.

Club Sando would pull a goal back right before halftime, as Alvin Jones rocketed in a free kick, bringing his side to within 2-1.

Golden Lion tightened things up in the back in the second half to see things out to nail down the win.
