WILLEMSTAD, Curacao – There was no shortage of drama on Tuesday on the final matchday of the 2019 Caribbean Club Shield group stage, starting in Group C with Greenbay Hoppers FC of Antigua and Barbuda storming back from a two-goal deficit to top Platinum FC of Saint Lucia 5-2.

A Noah Nicholas brace (27’, 34’) had Platinum FC in dreamland, but a ferocious second half comeback from Greenbay Hoppers thanks to braces from Alickson Montoute (57’, 61’) and Eugine Jarmain Kirwan (77’, 90+3’), plus a Miguel Mcpherson goal (80’), earned the three points.

Weymouth Wales FC of Barbados collected its first win of the tournament in Group B after edging Real Rincon 1-0 courtesy of a Romario Harewood goal (53’).

A 1-1 draw with Aruba’s Dakota FC was enough to seal first place in Group D for reigning Shield champions Club Franciscain of Martinique. Keano Javon Madura gave Dakota a first half lead (29’), only to be offset by a Johnny Daniel Marajo goal (78’).

Rounding out the day was action in Group A, in which both Jong Holland of Curacao and Santiago de Cuba emerged victorious.

Jong Holland got past Scholars International of Cayman Islands 1-0 on the strength of a Hugo Rolando Acosta goal (38‘), while Santiago de Cuba eased past Fruta Conquerors of Guyana thanks to a Rolando Domingo Abreu Canela brace (40’, 50’) and goals from Jorge Ihovany Villalon Cobas (43’) and Eddy Gerkis Olivares Ibranez (71’).
