Mexico sees defeat against Poland in Group A 

The first loss for the Mexicans in the U-20 Women’s World Cup.

KATOWICE, Poland – Second matchday for Group A in the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on Tuesday saw Mexico take a 2-1 defeat against host Poland at Arena Katowice in Katowice, Poland.

An own goal by Martyna Bartczak in the 5’ gave Mexico the early advantage against the host of the tournament.

However, Poland quickly pulled one back just four minutes after, with Oliwia Zwiazek getting the equalizer through a right foot shot from the edge of the area in the 9’.

After a VAR review, the referee called for a penalty kick for Poland after Ashley Mora committed a foul in the area. Zuzanna Witek was ready to get the ball to the back of the net to complete Poland’s comeback in the 76’.

Mexico will take the U-20 Women’s World Cup pitch again when they face Argentina in their third match in Group A on Friday at Arena Katowice.
