Concacaf Hosts W Professional Football Development Seminar in Mexico City
Mexico City, Mexico — (May 27, 2026) — Concacaf hosted its W Professional Football Development Seminar in Mexico City, bringing together women’s football league directors, club licensing managers, Member Association representatives, and key stakeholders from across the region for two days of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and strategic discussion focused on the continued growth of the women’s game.
The seminar marked the official launch of the first-ever Concacaf Women’s Club Licensing Regulations, a new framework designed to support Member Associations in the structured development, delivery, and sustainability of women’s football. The regulations aim to help raise standards, strengthen club and league environments, and provide a foundation for the long-term professionalization of the women’s game across Concacaf’s 41 Member Associations.
Philippe Moggio, Concacaf General Secretary, opened the seminar and welcomed participants to Mexico City, highlighting the important role of collaboration, shared expertise, and practical implementation in building stronger women’s football structures across the region.
Over the course of the seminar, participants engaged in expert presentations, panel discussions, case studies, and interactive group activities focused on key areas including women’s club licensing, inclusive participation, quality standards and compliance, competition development, high-performance teams, and long-term professional development.
The first day featured a presentation from Mariana Gutierrez, President of Liga MX Femenil, who shared insights from one of the region’s leading women’s football growth stories. Participants also heard from Stats Perform on the role of data in advancing women’s football, received a women’s club competitions update from Carlos Fernandez, Concacaf Chief of Competitions, and took part in discussions on human resources, quality standards, compliance, women’s football initiatives, and Concacaf’s Next Game Plan program.
Day two continued with additional regional and global perspectives, including a presentation from Jessica Berman, Commissioner of the NWSL, a Member Association presentation from Panama, and an Emerging Leagues panel featuring representatives from Canada, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and Costa Rica. The discussions provided participants with practical examples of league development, governance, compliance, and sustainable growth across different football environments.
The seminar was designed as a platform for knowledge sharing, and as a working environment where participants could assess their current realities and begin shaping actionable plans for the implementation of the Women’s Club Licensing Regulations and broader women’s football initiatives within their Member Associations.
The event also took place alongside an important week for women’s club football in the region, with the Concacaf W Champions Cup Finals being held in Mexico, which saw Club América Femenil emerge victorious to lift the regional trophy.
Through initiatives such as the W Professional Football Development Seminar, the Women’s Club Licensing Regulations, and continued investment in regional women’s competitions, Concacaf is working with its Member Associations and stakeholders to build a stronger, more sustainable, and more inclusive future for women’s football across North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.
