Tigres Ready for Champions Cup Final

Media day quotes from select players and manager of Tigres UANL.

TOLUCA, Mexico – The 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup awaits a new champion when Tigres UANL meets fellow Liga MX powerhouse Deportivo Toluca FC in a highly anticipated Final on Saturday at Estadio Nemesio Díez in Toluca, Mexico.

Tigres is in search of a second Champions Cup crown as the club makes a record-tying fifth appearance in a Final during the modern era of the competition (since 2008).

Ahead of the grand occasion, manager Guido Pizarro and select players previewed the decisive match at Friday’s Media Day.

Manager Guido Pizarro: “We are confident we can bring the cup home”

We are very focused on what we must do in all aspects of the game. We understand it will be a very hard-fought match, but we have complete confidence in what we will do to win the title.

We see it as a great opportunity. We’ve had the chance to reach another final in a short period of time and the chance to give our fans another title. We are confident we can play a great match and bring the cup home.

Goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán: “The final finds us at a great moment”

To be in a final at this stage of my career is an honor… I believe this is one of the most important finals during my time with Tigres.

We had these three weeks to focus specifically on our opponent, on the final. It’s a match that demands that level of attention at every moment. No circumstance of the match, neither before nor during, should distract us from what we’ve been working on, from our strengths, from our desire.

I think the last final in the domestic league prepared us to be champions; I said that when this tournament began. But this four or five-month process of competing in two competitions of experiencing difficult times, of overcoming adversity, has prepared us even more. So, the final finds at a great moment.

Midfielder Fernando Gorriarán: “I’m proud to belong to this group”

We know the responsibility of this match, and without a doubt, the excitement is immense because of what a victory would mean for us… The team is prepared to play a perfect game, because it’s a tough pitch, and they’re a tough opponent. I think we have the tools and we’re preparing so that things go well.

The excitement is there, the desire is there, and obviously, the responsibility to bring joy to our fans, who deserve it for all the support they give us, for never leaving us alone, and for always showing us the affection they show the team… I’m proud to belong to this group, to this institution, to represent the best fans in the country.

Midfielder Diego Lainez: “Our goal is to lift the cup”

This is one of the most important finals of my career, because of what it could mean to take Tigres to the Club World Cup, and I’m happy to be a part of it.

The team’s focus and energy are on winning the title. This team has worked incredibly hard to get to this point. It’s been a tough road in this Concacaf Champions Cup. We’ve faced some tough opponents, we’ve bounced back from adversity, we’ve shown what kind of team we are, and we hope to play a great match. Without a doubt, our goal is to lift the cup.

Midfielder Juan Brunetta: “This is a new opportunity to make history with Tigres”

This is a new opportunity to make history with Tigres. We know it's a high-pressure situation, but we're really enjoying it. The team is very calm and training hard to arrive in top form.

The last few matches against Toluca have been very close. They're a team that always competes, they've proven that, but we've been showing we are capable as well. It's going to be a very even final, and it will come down to the smallest details.

Forward Ángel Correa: “I’m going to give everything on the pitch”

I’m fortunate to have been given these moments by football and by life, ever since I started playing back in Argentina at 18. I’m grateful to football and I live it that way, enjoying it to the fullest. I’m going to do the same in the final; I’m going to give everything on the pitch to help my team.

The team has prepared very well, we’ve worked hard and very well, and hopefully we’ll all have a great match… We’re just one step away from putting Tigres back where it belongs because it’s a great institution.
