Tigres take the lead against Nashville

Tigres claimed a crucial first-leg advantage in Nashville, edging a 1–0 win on the road with a decisive strike from Ángel Correa.

MIAMI – The 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup continued with Tigres UANL securing a 1-nil win against Nashville SC in the First Leg of their Semifinals series on Tuesday at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee, USA.

Ángel Correa scored the lone goal in the 33’ with a left-footed rocket from outside the box. The FIFA World Cup winner set up his goal off a short volley following an interrupted build up in midfield.

Nashville struggled to find the equalizer in the absence of its star striker Sam Surridge, who was out due to a back injury.

Brian Schwake played a big role for the home side with six saves to keep it a one-goal game. Nahuel Guzmán also had a big night between the sticks with the clean sheet.

Correa was named the Superior Player of the Match for his match-winning goal.

The two teams will meet for the Second Leg next Tuesday at Estadio Universitario in San Nicolás de los Garza, Nuevo León, Mexico. The winner on aggregate will advance to the Final.

Post– Match Data

  • Tigres UANL earned their first away win against an MLS team in the Concacaf Champions Cup since a 1-0 victory at New York City FC in the 2020 quarterfinals. Prior to tonight, Tigres had gone eight consecutive away matches against MLS opposition in the competition without a win (D6 L2).
  • Tigres UANL held Nashville SC to just 0.32 expected goals on nine shots tonight. It was the lowest expected goals allowed by an away team in a Concacaf Champions Cup semifinal match since expected goals began being tracked in 2018.
  • Both of Ángel Correa’s goals in this season’s Concacaf Champions Cup have come from outside the box. He is one of two players with multiple goals from outside the area in this year’s competition, alongside FC Cincinnati’s Kévin Denkey.
  • Tigres UANL have scored four goals from outside the box in this season’s Concacaf Champions Cup, the most of any team in the competition. The last team to score more than four goals from outside the box in a single edition of the tournament was Pachuca, with eight, in the 2016-17 season.
  • Nashville SC goalkeeper Brian Schwake made six saves tonight, bringing his total to 21 saves in this season’s Concacaf Champions Cup, the second-most among goalkeepers, behind LAFC’s Hugo Lloris.
