Goal galore from Slingerz to kick off the CFU Shield Cup
MIAMI – The 2026 CFU Club Shield kicked off on Thursday at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Balmain, Couva, Trinidad and Tobago, the competition serving as the qualifier path for the teams to secure a ticket to the 2026 Concacaf Caribbean Cup.
The tournament begins with the First Round on July 23 and 24, followed by the Round of 16 on July 25 and 26. The Quarterfinals are scheduled for July 28, the Semifinals for July 31, and the Final will be played on August 2.

Dublanc 1, St. John’s 3
The first match of the day saw St. John’s took a 3-1 win against Dublanc. Alex Williams opened the score for the Grenada side in the 41’ with a right foot shot in the box. Chad Bertrand from Dublanc had the chance to even things out in the 45’ from the penalty spot, goalkeeper Shaquille Charles denying him the goal.
St John’s doubled their lead in the 45’+2 from the penalty spot, Shermine Williams not missing the shot. Before the first half ended, Audel Laville pulled one back for the Dominica team in the 45 '+8. However, Kimo Stevie Sampson scored the third and final goal for his team in the 54’, securing their first win.
SWA Sharks 0, Slingerz 4
Singlerz delivered a goal galore performance against SWA Sharks to take a 4-nil win in the second match of the day at Ato Boldon Stadium.
Slinglerz didn’t take long to open the score, with Kemar Beckford getting their first goal in the 10’. He secured a brace and the second one for his team in the 44’ with a right foot shot in the box. A left foot shot in the box in the 75’ Neron Barrow meant the third one for Slingerz. The fourth and final goal of the match came in the 84’ from Derrel Garcia.
La Clery 2, Roaring Lions 1
The last match of Matchday 1 in the CFU Club Shield saw La Clery defeat the Roaring Lions with a 2-1l final score.
The first goal of the match came from the penalty spot, with Shaquille Degazon the one that put the ball in the back of the net in the 16’ for La Clery. He doubled his personal count and his team lead in the 25’.
The Roaring Lions managed to pull one back in the last minutes of the game, in the 90’, through a left foot shot in the area by Christon Williams.
About the CFU Club Shield
Established in 2018 by the Caribbean Football Union (CFU), the CFU Club Shield has a primary objective of advancing professional football throughout the Caribbean. Participation is open to semi-professional and amateur teams holding current championship titles in their respective domestic leagues.
This 2026 edition marks the eighth edition of the tournament and will be played from July 23 through August 2 across three venues in Trinidad and Tobago. The CFU Club Shield also serves as the qualifier for the 2026 Concacaf Caribbean Cup, with the champions and runners-up securing a place in the competition.
