Tena’s tenure at Cruz Azul ends

(Photo: Mexsport) MEXICO CITY – After missing out on a berth in the Liga MX Clausura’s playoffs on goal difference, Cruz Azul announced Tuesday that head coach Luis Fernando Tena and his staff will not return for next season. Tena, who was hired for a fourth stint with the club in December 2013, led La Maquina to the 2013/14 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League crown.  He was also in charge when Cruz Azul won the 1997 CONCACAF Champions Cup. The 57-year-old guided the Mexico City-based side to its last domestic-league title in 1997 and directed Mexico to a gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games.  Also, in 2012, Tena led the Tricolor to the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying tournament championship. It is expected that Cruz Azul will act quickly to name a replacement.
