Curacao-Panama on knife’s edge heading into second leg

MIAMI, Florida – The margins are razor thin for both Panama and Curacao, who will resume their second round series of Concacaf World Cup Qualifying for Qatar 2022 on Tuesday night at the Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad, Curacao.

The Canaleros looked to be in control with a 2-0 advantage deep into the second half of the first leg at home in Panama, but a late Curacao goal from Rangelo Janga resulted in a 2-1 final to completely change the scope of the two-legged series.

Now with a 1-0 win on home soil, Curacao would advance to the final round of CWCQ for the first time in their history, while a draw or win would be enough to keep Panama’s hopes alive of a second straight FIFA World Cup qualification.

The Central American visitors will once again be relying on the playmaking of players like Alberto Quintero and Michael Murillo, the former scoring an outstanding goal to open the scoring on Saturday and the latter making a great slaloming run into the Curacao area to set up Panama’s second.

As for Curacao, they know that any touch for Janga in the area could lead to a goal, while Leandro Bacuna is a midfield orchestrator who can either help find a goal or maintain a lead.
