Shaw, Mayor and Flores head up W Qualifying Best XI

MIAMI, Florida – The February and April windows of 2022 Concacaf W Championship Qualifying produced a number of top performances, but these 11 players stood out the most at their respective positions.

GK Jasmin Armstrong, Belize – The Belize back-stop started all four matches for her team and recorded a W Qualifying-leading 28 saves. She finished qualifying with a clean sheet in the 3-0 win over Barbados.

DF Rebeca Bernal, Mexico – Bernal finished as the top-rated defender, playing three games for El Tricolor, who punched their ticket to the W Championship with a first-place finish in Group A, allowing no goals in four games. Bernal also scored two goals and collected an assist.

DF Mariana Benavides, Costa Rica – The Ticas captured Group B with a perfect 4W-0D-0L record, while allowing zero goals thanks in part to the efforts of Benavides, who had five clearances and two goals in four games.

DF Yerenis De Leon, Panama – De Leon also scored two goals to go along with three clearances in four games, as Panama nailed down their W Championship spot by winning Group D and allowing zero goals.

DF Sydney Cummings, Guyana – The Lady Jaguars came within a whisker of reaching the W Championship and were led by Cummings, who had three goals, an assist and three clearances.

MF Khadija Shaw, Jamaica – Already a proven goalscorer with the Reggae Girlz, Shaw added to her legacy with 10 goals on 22 shots and four assists in Jamaica’s Group C-winning campaign.

MF Stephany Mayor, Mexico – Mayor was a steady presence in the Mexico midfield, tallying four goals on 12 shots and also earning an assist.

MF Raquel Rodriguez, Costa Rica – Rodriguez always shows up in the big games for the Ticas and the two windows were no exception. She peppered opponents’ nets with 21 shots, with six finding the back of the net. Rodriguez also had an assist.

FW Roselord Borgella, Haiti – Borgella tied as the top scorer in W Qualifying with 11 goals, including two four-goal outings in Haiti’s 11-0 win versus Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and the 21-0 win over British Virgin Islands. Borgella also displayed her versatility, adding an assist and a defensive clearance.

FW Yessenia Flores, Nicaragua – Flores seemingly had a hand in every single Nicaraguan attack in the Pinoleras’ four games. Flores tied with Borgella for the most goals in W Qualifying with 11, including six in the 19-0 triumph over Turks and Caicos Islands, while also picking up six assists.

FW Katty Martinez, Mexico – El Tricolor’s World Cup dream stayed intact thanks in large part to Martinez, who tallied six goals and amassed two assists in Mexico’s four wins.
