Concacaf W Championship Game-Changers: Stephany Mayor

MIAMI, Florida – The 2022 Concacaf W Championship kicks off July 4 in Monterrey, Mexico with eight teams in pursuit of lifting the trophy and proclaiming themselves champions of women’s football in the Concacaf region.

Each of the eight teams boast a special kind of player who is capable of making a play that can change the course of a game and swing things in their team’s favor.

For Mexico, that player is FW Stephany Mayor.

The Tigres Femenil (Mexico) striker is no stranger to the Concacaf W Championship stage, earning game-changer status every time she plays for Mexico.

Mayor has played 92 matches with the Mexican Senior Women’s National Team, scoring 21 goals. She helped her team win Group A in this year's Qualifying Stage for the CWC, scoring four goals, becoming one of the top three scorers in the tournament for Mexico.

Mexico's Concacaf history can’t be described without her. She was present in the CWC team of 2010 that matched its best performance ever in finishing as runners-up, with Mayor playing three matches. She was also part of the Mexican team that played in the CWC at USA 2014, where Mexico finished in third place.

But the CWC is not the only international competition on which she has put her personal stamp. A two-time Bronze medalist at the Pan American Games at Mexico 2011 and Canada 2015, she has proven to be a consistent performer for her National Team. Later, in 2014, she added a Gold medal to her collection when Mexico won first place at the Central American and Caribbean Games played in Peru.

When it comes to Mexican FIFA Women’s World Cup history, Mayor is a player that always has been at the services of her team. She was part of the U-20 Women’s World Cup at Chile 2008 and Germany 2010. Later on, she had the opportunity to demonstrate how important of a player she is, making the squad for the World Cup at Germany 2011, scoring one goal in three matches played. Four years later, at Canada 2015, she played in three matches.

The Estadio Universitario, the home of Tigres Femenil, is one of the stadiums where the CWC is going to be played, and it’s the perfect scenario for Mayor to be a game-changer for Mexico, helping them obtain their goal of qualifying to the next World Cup.
