U.S., Dominican Republic roll in CU20W openers

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic Both the United States and Dominican Republic opened the 2020 Women’s Under-20 Championship in style with impressive wins in Group C on Saturday at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo.

The U.S. began the day’s action in the group with a 9-0 victory against Cuba.

Mia Fishel scored four goals (9’, 13’, 42’, 45+1’), while Brianna Pinto contributed a brace (16’, 90’). Not to be outdone was Alexa Spaanstra (37’), Summer Yates (67’) and Samantha Meza (68’) all chipping in with goals to help the U.S. to three points.

The Dominican Republic put on a show for the home fans with a 7-0 win against Honduras. 

Liliane Clase (16’, 33’) and Alissa Oviedo (57’, 59’) each had braces, while Mia Asenjo (4’), Kristian Garcia (13’), Brieana Hallo (85’) also added their names to the scoresheet.

The teams will return to action on Monday with the Dominican Republic facing the U.S. and Cuba taking on Honduras.
