Rodman carving out own legacy for U.S.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – Many know United States Under-20 National Team FW Trinity Rodman as the daughter of former NBA star Dennis Rodman, but at the 2020 Concacaf Under-20 Women’s Championship in the Dominican Republic, the younger Rodman has started carving out her own legacy.

Rodman has appeared in two of the U.S.’s four matches, and is one of the top scorers in the tournament with four goals, with all of them coming in the group stage finale versus Honduras, a 11-0 win.

Rodman is one of many U.S. players standing out at this tournament, and while basketball is in her blood, it is soccer that has her heart.

“I played other sports while I was growing up, I played basketball, flag football, volleyball, but soccer was more fun because I loved scoring when I was younger,” said Rodman in an exclusive interview with Concacaf.com.

“I like just being able to do my own thing and score and celebrate. I like running a lot, being fast and beating people. It was super fun for me growing up and it’s been better as the competition has gotten better,” added Rodman.

Rodman is just one of five players at the 2020 CUW20 to have scored four goals in the match, yet she says it was a lot more difficult than it looked.

“At the start of the game I was having trouble in 1v1s and attacking, so we had to change our strategy so that the back line had more numbers on the opposing team. I was just looking to get in on the long balls and crosses and finish those. I had two with my head and I was so excited about it. I was just trying to get on the end of those,” said Rodman.

No matter what happens for the remainder of the tournament, it is safe to say that the experience of playing with the national team at the CUW20 has been a memorable one for Rodman.

“I think it is amazing being here, there are so many different parts of the Dominican Republic. We practice right next to a farm where there are cows and pigs, and then there is the beautiful beach that we get to go to, which was the most fun thing I’ve ever experienced, so it’s been a super fun experience,” concluded Rodman.
