Canada down El Salvador to lock up CWU20 berth

MIAMI, Florida Canada defeated El Salvador to sew up a berth in the 2023 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship in Saturday’s CWU20 Qualifying action.

Canada emerged as winners of Group A thanks to their 9-1 victory against the Cuscatlecas at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

 

Four different players notched braces on the day for Canada, with Olivia Smith (14’, 19’), Annabelle Chukwu (43’, 47’), Amanda Allen (55’, 73’) and Kayla Briggs (85’, 87’) all achieving that feat, plus help with the day’s opening goal from Florianne Jourde (8’).

Elizabeth Johannes (34’) scored the lone goal for El Salvador.

Cuba collected their second win in Group A in a 3-0 final over Saint Vincent and the Grenadines at the Estadio Panamericano in Santo Domingo.

 

Maria Guillen (36’), Sheila Vega (77’) and Maria Blanco (90’) supplied the goals to help Cuba finish CWU20Q on a winning note.

Curacao finished up in strong fashion at home in Group B with a 8-0 win versus Sint Maarten at the Stadion Rignaal Jean Francisca in Willemstad.

 

Raengelly Keller had a banner day with five goals (5’, 30’, 49’, 55’, 61’), while Rushaviana Petronilia (85’, 89’) chipped in with a brace and Jeleaugh Rosa (11’) added a score to help Curacao to clinch second place in the group.
