Suriname, Haiti and Trinidad and Tobago stay unbeaten

MIAMI, Florida – Suriname, Haiti and Trinidad and Tobago all stayed unbeaten with victories on Sunday in the 2024 Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship Qualifying.

Group A

Group A resumed at the Estadio Nacional in Managua, Nicaragua, beginning with Cuba edging British Virgin Islands 2-1. Goals from Karel Perez (14’) and Samuel Rodriguez (67’) for Cuba sandwiched an Azarni Callwood (30’) goal for BVI.

The nightcap saw host nation Nicaragua defeat Belize 6-0. Andres Martinez (4’), Francis Castillo (13’, 52’), Oliver Bello (47’), Joab Gutierrez (50’) and Juban Uriarte (90’+3) all found the back of the net for the Pinoleros.

Group B

Things got going early in Group B at the ABFA Technical Centre in Piggots, Antigua and Barbuda, with El Salvador and Guyana playing to a 2-2 draw. Nathaniel Pydana (10’, 83’) accounted for both Guyana goals, while Kiano Casamalhuapa (22’) and Wilber Diaz (62’) tallied for the Cuscatlecos.

Suriname took a 3-2 thriller against hosts Antigua and Barbuda in the second match of the day in the group. Robinio Pinas (16’), Djaier Prijor (45’+4) and Jereno Van Gom (89’) supplied the Suriname scores. Eroy Gonsalves (69’) and Davian Gumbs (90’+5) found the back of the net for Antigua and Barbuda.

Group C

Group C resumed at the Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores in Guatemala City, Guatemala, with rivals Aruba and Curacao battling to a 1-1 draw. Connor Van Kilsdonk (25’) scored for Aruba, while Tarino Marchena (75’) equalized for Curacao.

The other match in the group ended with Guatemala posting a 6-0 win over Saint Martin. Matthew Evans (44’, 61’, 68’) notched a hat-trick, while Daniel Mendez (56’), Selvin Sagastume (90’+3) and a Tyler Flanders own goal (13’) rounded out the scoring.

Group D

Group D at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain returned with Canada downing Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 4-0. Tavio Ciccarelli had a hat-trick (23’, 54’, 89’), while Alessandro Biello (51’) chipped in a score.

Trinidad and Tobago emerged as 5-0 winners in the second match against Dominica. Michael Chaves (3’), Larry Noel (19’, 35’), Rio Cardines (37’) and Derrel Garcia (83’) supplied the goals for the Soca Warriors.

Group E

Group E was back at the SKNFA Technical Center in Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis, with Cayman Islands and Puerto Rico sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Justin Byles (23’) scored for Cayman Islands, while Puerto Rico got their goal from Benjamin Donato (79’).

The day then close with hosts Saint Kitts and Nevis falling 4-0 to Haiti. Bryan Destin (6’), Louis Isaie (9’), Jaylen-Andre Vilsaint (45’+3) and a Kejorn Wattley own goal (87’) delivered the 4-0 win to Haiti.

The teams in Group F return to action on Monday at the SKNFA Technical Center in Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis, starting with Martinique taking on Bermuda in the first-ever meeting between the two.

Martinique will be looking to rebound from their opening 1-0 loss to Jamaica, while Bermuda captured a 2-1 win over Grenada in their first match.

The nightcap will see Jamaica square off with Grenada. The Reggae Boyz are 4W-0D-0L all-time against Grenada.
