Martinique, Jamaica collect key victories in Group F

MIAMI, Florida Group F was back in action on Monday in 2024 Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship Qualifying with Martinique and Jamaica collecting victories, while another full slate of matches is on the docket for Tuesday.

Group F 

The teams in Group F returned to action on Monday at the SKNFA Technical Center in Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis, starting with Martinique taking down Bermuda 2-1 for their first win.

Hervinsonn Gervais (33’) and Awon Guillaume (63’) scored for Les Matinino, while Riley Robinson (82’) found the back of the net for the Gombey Warriors. 

The second match saw Jamaica top Grenada 2-0 to give them six points from two games. Nicholas Simmonds (30’) and Ronaldo Barrett (82’) scored for the Reggae Boyz.

 

Group A

Group A will resume at the Estadio Nacional in Managua, Nicaragua, beginning with British Virgin Islands and Belize. Each side are targeting their first victory in what will be the first ever meeting between the two nations.

The nightcap pits group aspirants and hosts Nicaragua against Anguilla. Nicaragua are on six points through two matches, while Anguilla are seeking their first point. This will be their first encounter.

Group B

Guyana and Suriname will kick off the action early in Group B at the ABFA Technical Centre in Piggots, Antigua and Barbuda, in a key match in which the winner will put themselves in the mix for the top spot. This will be their seventh meeting, with Suriname owning a 4W-1D-1L record, however the last encounter saw Guyana claim a 2-1 win in 2013.

That will be followed by hosts Antigua and Barbuda against Turks and Caicos Islands in a first ever meeting. Antigua and Barbuda are on three points through two matches, while Turks and Caicos Islands are searching for their first result.

Group C

Group C will be back at the Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores in Guatemala City, Guatemala, as Aruba clash with Saint Martin. Aruba got a point in their opener versus Curacao, while Saint Martin are still searching for their first result. Their lone previous meeting in CMU20 play was a 1-1 draw at USA 2018.

The second match of the day in the group will be Curacao battling Barbados. Curacao have four points after two games, while Barbados are aiming for their first result. Curacao lead the all-time series 2W-0D-1L, however Barbados won their last meeting 4-1 in 2003.

Group D

Group D at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, returns with Dominica taking on Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in a first ever meeting. Both sides are looking for their first win.

The second match of the day is a massive one with Canada versus Trinidad and Tobago in a 10th all-time CMU20 meeting. Canada have a 7W-1D-1L record against the Soca Warriors. Each team has six points, with Canada ahead on goal difference. The winner will be in the driver’s seat to advance to this summer’s Championship.

Group E

Group E will be back at the SKNFA Technical Center in Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis, with Haiti and Puerto Rico getting together in a match-up of the top two teams in the group. Haiti are on six points, while the Boricuas have four. Haiti are 2W-2D-0L all-time versus Puerto Rico.

The day will then close with hosts Saint Kitts and Nevis squaring off with Cayman Islands with each side keen to find its first win. Saint Kitts and Nevis were 5-1 winners in their only previous meeting in 2015.
