DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – The United States are champions of the 2022 Concacaf Women’s
Under-17 Championship in the Dominican Republic thanks to a 2-1 win over rivals Mexico in the
2022 CWU17 Final on Sunday evening at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo
Domingo, Dominican Republic.

It is the fifth time that the U.S. have taken top honors at the CWU17 and the title serves as their
third straight crown.

The hero was Melina Rebimbas, who followed up her brilliant two-goal semifinal performance
with the winning score in the 77 th minute.

First to strike was the U.S., as Lauren Martinho hammered a right-footed shot from outside the
area that skimmed off the finger tips of Mexico GK Carmen Lopez and into net to hand the U.S. a 1-0 lead in the 20’.

But Mexico would get back on level terms, 1-1, in the 66’ thanks to a tidy finish from Maribel Flores, who slipped in past a U.S. defender and poked in a shot at the back post past U.S. GK Victoria Safradin for the goal.

It was anyone’s game going into the final quarter-hour, and the U.S. would be the ones to find the winning score in the 77’ courtesy of Rebimbas, whose composed left-footed finish delivered
the 2-1 triumph for the U.S.
