REPUBLICA DOMINICANA Wednesday marked the conclusion of both Group E and Group G at the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship in the Dominican Republic, with the likes of Puerto Rico and Nicaragua each punching their ticket to the next round.

Group G had the first games of the day and it was Puerto Rico topping Grenada in a winner-take-all affair at the Estadio Panamericano in San Cristobal.

A Tiara McIntosh own goal in the 9’ served as the only score of the game until the final 15 minutes when the Boricuas closed in strong fashion.

A pair of goals from Madison Krakower in the 75’ and 81’, along with Aleah Rivera’s score in the 90+2’, allowed Puerto Rico to collect the precious three points, a third-place finish in the group and a spot in the Round of 16.

The other game in Group G determined who would finish atop the group, and it was the United States doing it with a 5-0 triumph over Costa Rica at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo in a duel between two sides already qualified for the next round.

Amalia Villarreal took the lead atop the scoring list in the 2022 CWU17 with her seventh goal of the tournament in the 4’, and was later joined by Charlotte Kohler (45+1’), Riley Jackson (58’), Onyeka Gamero (61’) and Claire Hutton (90’) on the scoresheet.

In Group E, Mexico solidified their place atop the group with a commanding 10-0 win against Trinidad and Tobago at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez.

Deiry Ramirez (65’, 80’, 84’) led the way with a hat trick, while Maribel Flores (73’, 75’) added a brace to go along with goals from Grecia Pineda (9’), Layla Sirdah (26’), Sofia Jimenez (44’), Brenda Vega (63’) and Tatiana Flores (88’).

The defeat for Trinidad and Tobago meant that Nicaragua advanced to the Round of 16, despite their 2-0 loss to Panama at the Estadio Panamericano.

Ninelys Castrellon scored in the 35’ and Sherline King added a second in the 60’ to earn the victory for Panama, who finished in second place in the group, while Nicaragua were third.
