TOLUCA, Mexico – The 2017 Scotiabank CONCACAF U-13 Champions League opened Saturday with eight games at the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol’s headquarters in Toluca, Mexico. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Isaias Violante Romero scored two goals in Liga Municipal Boca del Rio’s 3-1 win over Portmore United.
  • Victoria rallied to overcome Plaza Amador, 2-1, with a pair of goals in the last 13 minutes.
  • A Joseph Steven Cruz Chavarria goal five minutes into the second half helped Real Esteli to a 1-0 win over defending champion San Salvador.
  • Universidad Cantera Norte topped Toronto FC, 1-0, on Miguel Angel Carreon Medel’s last-minute goal.
  • Nathaniel Carrim scored with six minutes left in normal time to give Police FC a 1-1 draw with San Salvador.
  • Herediano got a brace from Sebastian Salas Rodriguez to defeat Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 3-0. The third annual invitational tournament, featuring 16 of the region’s top under-13 clubs representing 10 different CONCACAF Member Associations will conclude with the match for third place and final on August 12. El Salvador’s Santa Ana, which defeated Comunicaciones in the 2016 final (0-0, 5:4 pens), is the defending champion.
