Moravia crowned UNCAF women’s champion

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Moravia earned a 1-0 win over UNIFUT in the final of the inaugural UNCAF Women’s Inter-Club Championship on Sunday at the rain-soaked Estadio Ernesto Rohrmoser. Daniela Coto struck for the only goal in the 12th minute, with a brilliantly executed free kick with her left foot from the right side. A severe storm in the 26th minute forced referee Melissa Perez to suspend play for 45 minutes, but when both sides returned to the field, only the excellent UNIFUT goalkeeper Yoselin Franco prevented Moravia from widening its advantage. The Guatemala international thwarted Coto and then Karla Villalobos, who entered the game with two tournament goals. Perez issued the first of two second-half red cards to UNIFUT’s Kellin Mayen in the 49th minute for a second yellow card, while Naomi Molina of Moravia suffered the identical fate in the 77th minute. Moravia completed the competition with an overall record of 3W-0D-1L, while UNIFUT compiled the same mark.
