TOKYO, Japan – Honduras’ 2020 Tokyo Olympic campaign came to an end with a 6-0 defeat to South Korea in their Group B finale on Wednesday night at the International Stadium Yokohama in Yokohama, Japan.

Honduras looked to get off to a strong start and Jose Reyes had a crack at goal in the 6’, but his effort was saved by South Korea GK Song Bum-keun.

Soon after that, South Korea would take control, beginning with Hwang Ui-jo converting a penalty kick in the 12’ for a 1-0 South Korea lead.

Nine minutes later in the 19’, it was 2-0 to South Korea after another penalty in the Honduras area and Won Du-jae stroking home the spot kick.

Things grew even more difficult for Honduras in the 39’ when Carlos Melendez was sent off with his second yellow card of the game, reducing the Catrachos to 10 men.

Hwang Ui-jo then notched his second of the game in first half stoppage time by pouncing on a block from Honduras GK Alex Guity and firing into net for a 3-0 lead.

Hwang Ui-jo made it a hat trick for himself and a 4-0 advantage for his side in the 52’ when he converted another penalty kick.

Kim Jin-ya stretched the lead to 5-0 in the 64’ by latching onto a cut-back cross from the right flank and hammering home a right-footed shot.

South Korea then completed the 6-0 victory in the 82’ on a right-footed shot from outside the area from Lee Kang-in.
