MIAMI — This week in Concacaf is headlined by the final of the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup between Pachuca and Columbus Crew on June 1 at the Estadio Hidalgo in Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico.
This single-leg encounter marks the 90th championship match in the tournament's history, which dates to 1962. It's the 11th final to be decided by a lone encounter, and it's the first time these two clubs will meet in the tournament.
CF Pachuca holds an 8W-4L-1D record against MLS and is undefeated in five CCC finals appearances (2002, 2007, 2008, 2009–10, 2016–17). Additionally, the Tuzos have never lost at home in 30 CCC encounters.
The Columbus Crew will be the sixth MLS club to play a final in the tournament's history and the fourth club to play it as a single-match final. Columbus has a streak of three away matches without a loss (2W, 1D), the best streak for the American club in the tournament's history. It will look to be the fourth MLS side to win the competition, following D.C. United (1998), LA Galaxy (2000) and Seattle Sounders (2022).
Both clubs are undefeated during the 2024 edition. The two, who qualified as champions of their respective leagues, entered in the Round of 16.
The winner will also become club champions of Concacaf and earn a place in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. The past three champions, Monterrey (2021), Seattle Sounders (2022), and Club Leon (2023), have also qualified for the expanded 32-team field.
