LEONORA, Guyana –Teenage sensation Omari Glasgow took center stage again as Guyana claimed a 2-1 victory over Bermuda in Group B of League B of the 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League at the National Track and Field Centre in Leonora, Guyana.

After a 2-1 victory over Montserrat in their opening match, Guyana was looking for a victory at home to extend its lead at the top of the table. Meanwhile, Bermuda were hoping to improve on a hard-earned point in their opener to overtake their opponents for first place.

Jonte Smith had the first clear chance on goal of the encounter, hoping to put the visitors up in the eighth minute. Stephen Duke-McKenna responded for the home side in the 16th minute and Omari Glasgow, hoping to follow up on a brace in the previous game, also had a good look in the 23rd.

Trayon Bobb then found the back of the net for the opening goal with a left-footed finish to put Guyana up 1-0 in the 35th minute. It marked the fifth CNL goal for the 28-year-old, who is the top scorer for the Golden Jaguars in the competition.

A 41st minute free kick provided the opportunity to equalize for Bermuda. While the first attempt was deflected by the Guyanese defense, Dante Leverock scored a spectacular bicycle kick on the second chance opportunity to tie the match at one apiece.

Bermuda’s celebration would be short-lived, though, as the 18-year-old Glasgow had other plans. A turnover off a throw-in quickly transitioned into a counter by Guyana and the young forward was ready inside the box to receive with his right foot and smash the ball for the 2-1 lead in the 45+2 minute.

The second half provided plenty of close calls and it would be the defenses that shined with denied attempts, with Bermuda unable to find the precious equalizer and Guyana walking away with the victory.
